Why Do I need A USI?

Why do I need a USI?

The USI initiative has been developed jointly by Australian, State and Territory governments. If you are completing nationally recognised training from January 1 2015, you will now be required to have a Unique Student Identifier (USI).

Important: As per legislative requirements, a USI number must be provided before a Statement of Attainment or Diploma can be issued.

Your USI will enable all your training records to be entered in the national vocational education and training (VET) data collection.  This will make it easier for you to find, collate and authenticate you VET achievements into a single transcript and ensure that your VET records are not lost.

    Does it cost anything?

You can apply for a USI online for free. You will keep your USI for life and be recorded with any nationally recognised VET course that is undertaken from when the USI comes into effect.

How do I get a USI?

    The process is very simple:

Step 1:  Get ONE form of ID from the list below ready:

    • Driver's Licence
    • Medicare Card
    • Australian Passport
    • Visa (with Non-Australian Passport) for international students
    • Birth Certificate (Australian)
    • Certificate Of Registration By Descent
    • Citizenship Certificate

If you do not have a proof of ID from the list above, please contact us on 1300 727 444

Step 2:  Have your personal details ready

Step 3:  Have your contact details ready (e.g. email address, mobile number, postal address)

Step 4:  Have a password ready

Step 5:  Visit the USI website at: usi.gov.au

Step 6:  Click on the 'Create a USI' link and follow the steps.

Step 7:  Upon completion, the USI will be displayed on the screen. It will also be sent to your preferred method of contact.

Step 8:  Write down the USI number or keep it somewhere handy and safe.

Step 9:  Provide your USI number to SAI Global on your course registration form or Phone: 1300 727 444 or email: training@saiglobal.com.

Important: The details entered when creating a USI must match exactly those provided when registering for a course. First Name, Surname and Date of Birth are used to verify your USI and are therefore mandatory for course registration.
